J.A.R.V.I.S. User Guide
J.A.R.V.I.S. (JARVIS) is a cross-platform desktop task manager app, optimized for use via a Command Line Interface (CLI). If you can type fast, JARVIS can manage your tasks faster than traditional Graphical User Interface (GUI) apps.

Quick start
Prerequisites: Ensure that you have Java 11 or above installed in your Computer.
For new user
Set up JARVIS as follows:
- Create an empty folder you want to use as the home folder for JARVIS.
- Download the latest
JARVIS.jar
from here. - Copy the jar file to the folder you created earlier.
- Open a command window to that folder.
- Run the command
java -jar JARVIS.jar
(i.e., run the command in the same folder as the jar file). -
If the setup is correct, you should see something like the output below after approximately 5 seconds.

For existing user
Open JARVIS as follows:
- Open a command window to the home folder where you have copied
JARVIS.jar
. - Run the command
java -jar JARVIS.jar
(i.e, run the command in the same folder as the jar file). -
If you already have a
jarvis.txt

Note:
Command should always be in
lower_case
. It is always the first word supplied by the user.e.g.

.Extraneous parameters for commands that do not take in parameters (such as

.Whenever the task list is updated,
jarvis.txt
will be automatically updated if it already exists in the same directory as theJARVIS.jar
file. Ifjarvis.txt
is missing, it will be automatically created within the same directory as the jar file.
Adding a todo task : todo
Adds a todo task to the task list.
Format: todo TASK_DESCRIPTION
Example: todo read book
Expected outcome:
Got it. I've added this task:

Now you have 1 tasks in the list.

Adding a deadline task : deadline
Adds a deadline task to the task list.
Format: deadline TASK_DESCRIPTION /by DETAILS
DETAILS
can be in any format and order.
Example: deadline complete assignment /by 6 March 2021, 2359

Adding an event task : event
Adds an event task to the task list.
Format: event TASK_DESCRIPTION /at DETAILS
- Similar to
deadline
,DETAILS
can be in any format and order.
Example: event project meeting /at NUS, 25 Feb 2021, 2-4pm

Deleting a task : delete
Deletes the specified task from the task list.
Format: delete INDEX
- Deletes the task at the specified

Searching tasks by a keyword : find
Finds tasks which descriptions contain the given keyword.
Format: find KEYWORD
- The search is case-sensitive. e.g.
BOOKS
will not matchbook
- Only the description is searched.
- Partial words will be matched. e.g.
meet
will matchmeeting
- All tasks matching with the given keyword will be returned.
Example: find meet

Q: How do I transfer my data to another computer?
A: The jarvis.txt
